A new freshman class of lawmakers from the Chicago suburbs took their seats in Springfield yesterday. Among them was one Democrat, Anne Stava-Murray, who refused to vote to re-elect Madigan as House Speaker. The Daily Herald today featured summaries of their ambitions for the session.

Local CCL members scored a promising victory last fall. After a long campaign to get a climate change resolution on the ballot, voters in York and Lyons Townships both approved the resolution by more than 3/4 margin.

Stava-Murray rode last fall's blue wave to a surprise win in the solidly Republican south-central DuPage 81st District, spending only $30,000 in the effort. Key to her success in this traditionally red suburb around Downers Grove was her vocal opposition to Madigan.
